This webinar - held on 9 October 2023 - was produced by the International Association for the Study of Pain's Social Aspects of Pain Special Interest Group (SocSIG).
In addition to the physical challenges of living with pain, individuals who experience pain are at increased risk of comorbidities - including depression - that can exacerbate the pain condition and impede recovery. Psychosocial factors that may contribute to these comorbidities include - but are not limited to – experiences of pain-related stigma, discrimination, and perceived injustice.
This webinar explored how stigma, discrimination, and perceived injustice are associated with adverse pain outcomes across different conditions and contexts. Next steps in terms of future research and intervention development were also discussed.
Participants included:
- Joanna L. McParland, PhD, Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland
- Whitney Scott, PhD, King's College London, UK
- Claire E. Ashton-James, PhD, University of Sydney, Australia (moderator)
